Happy Hour no°308 12th Jan 2016 – The Golden Microphone

Tonight’s show had to be just a little bit about the late great David Bowie (1967-2016) who passed away at the weekend after a long battle with cancer.

I played three tracks to his memory, before playing my usual eclectic HH mix of other bits & bobs:

My very personal tribute – “As the World Falls Down” – his beautiful dreamy waltz composed (along with 4 other tracks) for the 1986 Jim Henson film “Labyrinth”, where D.B plays the goblin king (a mesmerizing childhood moment)

A cover version of Ziggy Stardust played by Seu Jorge, a fabulous Brazilian singer/songwriter, who for this track plays acoustic & sings in Portuguese…the raw, pleading quality of his voice makes for poignant emotion!

Finally, as an outro to the show, I played “Heroes” because to many people, artists and average people alike, D.B was a hero in his own way, always unique, always different.

Fair ye well Goblin King! R.I.P
